Tetsuo & Youth by Lupe Fiasco
I don’t think it’s fair to criticize art for being too smart, but damn it, look at Tetsuo & Youth. On Food & Liquor and The Cool, Lupe Fiasco used his intellect and storytelling skills to weave yarn after yarn of compelling rap that was intelligent but stopped short of being labeled conscious. With Tetsuo & Youth, it feels like he sat down with a thesaurus and a rhyming dictionary and played a very long game of Scrabble against himself.
